After a 12-hour night train and an early morning in a dark alley, we arrived in our promised land; Italy.
In Berlin, Prague, and Vienna, we froze. We didn't want to get out of bed in the morning and we didn't want to go out late at night. The sun had barely made an appearance since Paris, and owing mostly to poorly planned packing, we could not get warm for weeks. So, we spent our first day in Italy sitting in the sun (still in our warmest clothes) until we couldn't take the heat.
We spent the rest of our first day in Italy with creamy cappuccinos, mushroom pizza, local red wine, pistachio gelato, tomato pasta, and a tiramisu that made me feel sorry for all the other tiramisu in the world.
